The Seattle Kraken received some positive news today as they prepare for the second game of a five-game road trip.
Captain Jordan Eberle was back on the ice with the Kraken, taking part in line rushes as he skated alongside Matty Beniers and Kaapo Kakko in his usual spot on the top line. Following the practice, coach Lane Lambert told the travelling media that Eberle looks like he’ll be back in.
The 35-year-old missed the previous two games with an injury. While he was out, the Kraken posted a 0-1-1 record. Eberle currently leads the Kraken in goals and sits tied for first in points alongside his linemate Beniers.
The second piece of positive news was that Brandon Montour joined the Kraken for practice, his first time since undergoing hand surgery. The 31-year-old has been out of the lineup since Dec. 16 after fighting Colorado Avalanche defenseman Brent Burns.
Montour has missed quite some time this season due to injuries and unfortunate personal matters, but he’s still notched an impressive six goals and 16 points in 27 games. Although he won’t return tonight, it’s a positive sign that he is back skating in a non-contact jersey and that he is with the Kraken on their road trip.
It’s yet to be confirmed if he’ll enter the lineup during the road trip, but at the very least, it’s a great sign to see him back.
The Kraken take on the New York Rangers tonight at Madison Square Garden, with puck drop set for 4 p.m. PST. Tonight’s confirmed goaltenders are Philipp Grubauer and Jonathan Quick.
