Torrent fights for draft position. The "Golden Plan" offers a top pick incentive, with Laila Edwards the ultimate prize.
The Torrent were eliminated from playoff contention on April 14th after losing 4-1 to the Vancouver Goldeneyes. The Torrent are now competing with the Goldeneyes (who were also eliminated from playoffs) to earn the top draft pick. The PWHL incentivizes non-playoff teams to continue to win through what they call the “Golden Plan.” The team with the most points from post-elimination wins receives the first overall pick. With Laila Edwards on the line for the 2026 draft, it is a position the Torrent definitely want.
Speaking to media before the game, head coach Steve O’Rourke complimented on the team’s ability to weather adversity, “It’s easy to win…it’s hard to come back the next day with eagerness…and that’s what I see from this team every day.” It’s an attribute O’Rourke will not be seeing tonight.
