The Kraken snagged a dynamic, high-scoring defenseman at seventh overall. Now, the OHL standout brings his elite skating and puck-moving prowess to Seattle before heading to Michigan State.

With the seventh overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry draft the Seattle Kraken selected Chase Reid.  Reid is a 6’2”, 194 pound right-shooting defenseman who spent the majority of the last two seasons with the Soo Greyhounds of the OHL.  Known for his skating and puck control, Reid was expected to go in the top five by many draft rankings.

“I couldn’t be more honored,” was Reid’s response when asked how he felt about being drafted by Seattle, “I can’t wait to get started. We’re gonna do special things.” The Chesterfield, Michigan native is committed to play in the NCAA at Michigan State for the 2026-27 season along with fellow First Round picks Nikita Klepov, Ethan Belchetz, Jack Hextall, and Tommy Blyel.

Based on GM Jason Botterill's comments, it appears the Kraken have every intention to leave Reid at Michigan for the upcoming season.  Speaking on the pick, Botterill highlighted Reid's skating skill and his ability to "skate his way out of trouble" and that he, "always has his head up and can make a quick outlet play."

Before reporting to the university, Reid will make his Seattle debut at Kraken Development Camp.  Camp is open to the public for viewing on June 30th, July 1st, and Jul 2nd at the Kraken Community Iceplex.
