A late bounce off Connor McDavid set up Leon Draisaitl’s game-winning goal as the Kraken fell 3-1 to the Oilers in Edmonton.

The Seattle Kraken were just minutes away from taking a point out of Edmonton when a bad bounce changed the game.

With 2:27 left, Ryan Shea tried to keep the puck in at the blue line. The puck hit Connor McDavid along the boards and bounced straight to Leon Draisaitl in front. Draisaitl fired it past Philipp Grubauer to put the Oilers up 2-1.

Seattle couldn't find an answer, and McDavid added an empty-net goal in the final minute as the Kraken lost 3-1 at Rogers Place.

The game started badly for Seattle.

Edmonton scored on its first shot less than three minutes in. Owen Michaels beat Grubauer from a tough angle to make it 1-0.

The Kraken subsequently took three penalties in the first period, making it hard to get into a rhythm. Two more offsetting penalties later created 4-on-4 play, giving Edmonton more open ice.

Grubauer kept the Kraken close with several good saves.

Seattle settled down after the first and started to find its game. The Kraken stayed out of the penalty box, skated better and spent more time in the Edmonton zone.

Mackie Samoskevich also returned after missing nine days with an upper-body injury.

The Kraken tied the game in the second. Jordan Eberle made a play behind the net and found Bobby McMann, who beat Edmonton goalie Devon Levi with a shot from the side.

Seattle then had chances to take the lead. The Kraken outshot Edmonton 10-4 in the second, and McMann had another good chance early in the third.

Soon after, McMann created an even better opportunity for Eberle. He took the puck behind the net and sent it in front, where Eberle got a quick shot off. Levi made the save, and a video review confirmed the puck had not crossed the line.

Seattle couldn't finish another chance.

Then came Draisaitl's late goal, followed by McDavid's empty-netter.

The Kraken now return home for Sunday's opener against Calgary.
