Melanson Out Indefinitely

The Seattle Kraken are facing an uncertain wait for Jacob Melanson's return after the young forward was diagnosed with a vascular injury that will keep him sidelined indefinitely. Melanson suffered an upper-body injury during Seattle's season-opening 6-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Oct. 1. Further evaluation revealed an anterior mediastinal hematoma with a vascular pseudoaneurysm, prompting the Kraken to place his recovery under close medical supervision. Speaking Sunday, head coach Lane Lambert confirmed that Melanson is recovering and acknowledged the impact of his absence. Although the diagnosis raised concerns, Lambert credited Seattle's medical staff for responding quickly and handling the situation appropriately. The 23-year-old appeared in 36 games for the Kraken last season, recording five points (two goals, three assists) and 32 penalty minutes. He logged one shot on goal in 9:31 of ice time before exiting the season opener. Selected by Seattle in the fifth round (No. 131) of the 2021 NHL Draft, Melanson has appeared in 38 NHL games across three seasons, establishing himself as a young forward working to earn a more regular role. For now, the Kraken have provided no timetable for his return. The team says its medical staff will continue to monitor his condition throughout the healing process, with any progression toward a return to hockey taking place gradually. Seattle will have to move forward without Melanson for the foreseeable future, with his health and recovery remaining the priority.
