The Seattle Kraken have reassigned forward Jani Nyman to the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

While this may come as a surprise given how comfortable Nyman has looked in the NHL, the decision to send him back to the Firebirds is a wise one. The Kraken have been eliminated from the playoffs, and the Firebirds have clinched a playoff berth.

The 20-year-old has dominated the AHL in his rookie season, scoring 26 goals and 41 points in 55 games. With five games remaining before the playoffs, Nyman will look to rekindle his chemistry with his linemates and help the Firebirds fight for seeding.

Recently, the Firebirds added prospects Oscar Fisker Molgaard, Justin Janicke and Andrei Loshko to their lineup. Nyman's return will allow them to see everyone in their rightful spot in the lineup and decide what combinations work best prior to the beginning of the playoffs.

The 6'4 Finnish winger quickly made a name for himself in the Kraken's locker room and clicked almost instantaneously with Matty Beniers and fellow countryman Kaapo Kakko. He recorded three goals and six points in 12 games, averaging 13:59 of ice time and nearly two shots a game.

Nyman will likely be a shoo-in to make the Kraken's roster coming out of training camp and preseason next year. He has very little to prove in the minors and what he showed in his 12-game sample size is more than enough to warrant a spot.
