Another domino has fallen, and the Seattle Kraken have watched another top available head coach sign elsewhere after Rick Tocchet reportedly agreed to a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.
According to multiple reports, the Kraken were strongly pursuing Tocchet, hoping he could be the coach to elevate the Kraken and bring them back into the playoffs. Instead, he's decided to join a Flyers squad looking to develop their young roster back into contenders, headlined by Matvei Michkov.
The New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks and the Flyers have all gone out and locked up the veteran head coach they believe are best suited for their team, leaving the Kraken to likely look in a different direction. The Kraken are expected to take their time with their decision and follow a thorough process in their search.
If the Kraken are turned away by the market of experienced coaches, they will likely turn towards younger coaches, those attempting to enter or re-enter the NHL. Those coaches are headlined by Jay Woodcroft, Jay Leach, Todd Nelson, Pat Ferschweiler, Jeremy Colliton and Misha Donskov.
Following the firing of Dan Bylsma, Kraken President of Hockey Operations Ron Francis and Executive Vice President and General Manager Jason Botterill made it very clear that they are looking for a head coach who will help the organization develop the abundance of young talent they have.
