Seattle Kraken prospects Berkly Catton and Carson Rehkopf wrapped up their week with Team Canada at the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase and proved they deserve a roster spot come December.
Rehkopf played with Team Canada during the 2024 World Juniors and was a standout offensive performer scoring two goals and four points. During the WJSS, the 19-year-old showed his goal-scoring instincts and play-driving ability playing on a line with Catton.
Catton put his deep offensive tool kit on display throughout the entire week, making plays with the puck nearly every time he touched it. His vision and creativity shined brightly as he was involved in many goals scored by Canada.
Steven Ellis of the Daily Faceoff listed Catton as one of the standouts for Team Canada saying:
"It felt like Catton was making smart, effective plays in both ends more often than not. For a summer game, his footwork looked like he was in midseason form already and his pass to Jett Luchanko on the 3-2 goal late in the second was huge for Canada’s momentum. He then won a race for the puck while shorthanded in the third and fed Denver Barkey for the 3-3 goal – that was pretty. There’s going to be plenty of competition for a spot on center at the WJC, but I think Catton’s speed and smarts will lift him over."
Rehkopf bearing any injuries, will be on Canada's roster and if Catton plays at the level he's shown in the past, he'll likely have his spot on the roster before the pre-tournament camp even begins.
