The St. Louis Blues could see Alexey Toropchenko rejoin the lineup sooner than expected, as he has practiced with the team in non-contact over the past few days. The Blues also made a roster move, assigning Dylan Peterson to the Springfield Thunderbirds.
The St. Louis Blues have received some good injury news over the last couple of days.
Yesterday, Logan Mailloux and Alexey Toropchenko resumed skating; Mailloux did so privately, and Toropchenko joined the team. Coach Jim Montgomery said Mailloux is still a ways away from returning to game action, but he believes Toropchenko is ahead of schedule.
"Great news," said Montgomery. "Right now, he feels ahead of schedule, now he's got a doctor's appointment later this week and we'll find out he'll be able to be plugged back in the lineup."
Toropchenko practiced with the team in full today but still isn't taking contact. The next step is for him to practice with contact, which will provide a clearer timeline. Nonetheless, it appears he'll need less than the original six-week timeline originally suggested.
The 27-year-old sustained his injury in the first game of the season. He went down with an upper-body injury after just 5:08 of time on ice.
The Blues made a roster move today, sending forward Dylan Peterson back to the AHL with the Springfield Thunderbirds. The 24-year-old skated in three games, averaging 9:00 of ice time and recording one fight. He also threw nine hits and fired one shot on goal.
He'll return to the AHL, where he has yet to record any points in his first three games of the season. In the AHL, he's already recorded 19 penalty minutes.
