The St. Louis Blues took a nice step forward this season and got back into the playoffs this spring because of it. One massive reason for the Blues' success in this campaign was the club bringing in defenseman Cam Fowler from the Anaheim Ducks. The veteran defender was excellent for the Blues following the move and gave their blueline a major boost.

After posting just four assists in his first 17 games of the season with the Ducks, Fowler recorded nine goals, 36 points, and a plus-19 rating in 51 regular-season games with the Blues. He was also fantastic for the Blues during the playoffs, scoring two goals and leading the team with eight assists and 10 points in seven games. With all of this, he proved to be a big pickup for the Blues.

Because of how wonderfully he played, Fowler played on the Blues' top pairing and their power play. Thus, he had plenty of opportunities to shine with St. Louis, and he did just that.

Fowler is now entering the final season of his contract in 2025-26. With this, the Blues will be eligible to sign him to a contract extension starting July 1. Given how well he has fit in with the Blues, they should work hard to get him extended once they are eligible to.

Fowler also openly expressed interest in signing a contract extension with the Blues earlier this month following the club's playoff exit.

"Yeah, absolutely," Fowler said when asked about possibly signing an extension with the Blues. "Those decisions and conversations will have to be something that we go through over the summer with Doug and the whole group here, but I would love to be around as long as they'd like me here."

With Fowler being interested in an extension and making a major impact for the Blues, the Central Division club should work hard to get him signed to an extension. A short-term extension would probably the best course of action, as Fowler will turn 34 next year. It will be interesting to see if they end up doing just that this summer from here.
