Back on Dec. 15, the St. Louis Blues acquired defenseman Cam Fowler from the Anaheim Ducks. The 33-year-old blueliner had been in the rumor mill for quite some time, and this move gave him the change of scenery that he needed.
Now, three months later, this trade is one that is only continuing to benefit both the Blues and Fowler immensely.
Since his arrival, Fowler has emerged as a crucial part of the Blues' defense. The veteran defenseman has not only found a fit on their top pairing but is also currently on their first power-play unit and top penalty-kill unit. When looking at how well he has played in St. Louis, it is easy to understand why.
Fowler has been a significant reason for the Blues getting things back on track and being in the wild card race again. In 37 games with St. Louis since the trade, he has seven goals, 24 points, and a plus-8 rating. However, what's more encouraging is that he is not slowing down in the slightest as the campaign rolls on. In his last five contests, the 2010 first-round pick has six assists.
Overall, Fowler has undoubtedly given the Blues' defense a significant boost since his arrival, and it's a move that general manager Doug Armstrong must be ecstatic about. This is especially so when noting that the Blues did not need to give up a first-round pick to get him.
