Defenseman was sent to AHL's Springfield, will join team in Nashville, remains on IR recovering from broken right hand

The St. Louis Blues have recalled defenseman Logan Mailloux from his conditioning assignment from Springfield of the American Hockey League and has joined the team for its final game of a four-game road trip against the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Mailloux, 23, underwent surgery on a broken right hand on Sept. 28 after suffering the injury in the Blues’ final preseason game on Sept. 26 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Blues coach Jim Montgomery said prior to the team departing on its road trip, including a 5-4 win over the Detroit Red Wings, a 3-1 loss to the New York Rangers and on Thursday, a 5-4 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils, that there is a possibility Mailloux could return against the Predators albeit a slight one and that realistically, he could return against the Red Wings when the Blues next play at home on Tuesday.

When Mailloux gets officially activated, who will be on the outside looking in? One would think that rookie Adam Jiricek will go to Springfield since he's waivers-exempt. Justin Barron seems to have planted a foothold on a spot on this team with his play in the 13 games he's been in, including nine points (two goals, seven assists). Also, there's the notion that Theo Lindstein could head to Springfield.

There is also an open spot on the roster and there's the possibility that they just activate Mailloux and not make a move just yet. We will see which direction they go in.

Last season, Mailloux appeared in 67 regular-season games and had 13 points (five goals, eight assists).
