Josh Leivo's last season in the NHL was with the St. Louis Blues during the 2022-23 campaign. During that season, he had four goals, 16 points, and 55 hits in 51 games. He also played in two AHL games with the Springfield Thunderbirds that campaign, posting three goals and an assist.
Following his lone season as a Blue, Leivo signed with Salavat Yulaev Ufa of the KHL. In his first season with the KHL squad in 2023-24, he had 15 goals and 38 points in 40 games. Overall, it was a strong first KHL season for him, but he has taken his game to a historical level this year.
During Salavat Yulaev Ufa's last matchup against Barys Astana on March 22, Leivo scored his 49th goal of the season. With this, he has now set a KHL record with the most goals scored in a single season. Sergei Mozyakin previously held the record, when he scored 48 goals in 60 games with Mettallurg Magnitogorsk in 2016-17.
This is an incredible accomplishment for Leivo. He has certainly found his fit in the KHL, and he now has made history because of it. In 62 games this season with the KHL squad, Leivo now has 49 goals and 80 points.
