The St. Louis Blues should be looking to upgrade their roster this off-season after their solid 2024-25 season. One specific area that could use a boost in their lineup is their forward group.
When looking at potential players who could make sense for the Blues, Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann stands out.
McCann, 29, created plenty of chatter as a trade candidate leading up to the 2025 NHL trade deadline, but the Kraken ultimately decided to keep him. However, now that the summer is here and the Kraken have been making changes to their roster, the Blues should seriously consider making a push for McCann.
Throughout his career, McCann has been a solid offensive contributor, which was undoubtedly the case with the Kraken this season as well. In 82 games this season, the 6-foot-1 forward scored 22 goals and set a new career high with 39 assists. It was also the second season in a row where he hit the 60-point mark.
McCann also offers great value, as he can play both down the middle and on the wing. Due to this, he could be a perfect addition for the Blues' second-line center spot if acquired. However, he could also work on the wing anywhere in St. Louis' top nine as well. He is also known for being a smart two-way player, so he would give the Blues another option for both their power play and penalty kill.
Another appealing factor about McCann is that he has a bargain $5 million cap hit until the end of the 2026-27 season. Due to this, he would be more than just a rental for the Blues, which certainly would be a major plus.
