Defenseman, goalie head to Springfield after clearing waivers on Monday afternoon
MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. -- The St. Louis Blues assigned goalie Georgii Romanov and defenseman Calle Rosen to Springfield of the American Hockey League on Monday.
Romanov and Rosen were each placed on waivers on Sunday for the purpose of sending them to the Blues' AHL affiliate. They join forwards Oskar Sundqvist, Nathan Walker and Jack Finley, each who was assigned on Saturday.
Romanov will be the starting goalie for the Thunderbirds after taking over for Vadim Zherenko during the Calder Cup playoffs last season and leading Springfield on an unprecedented run to the Atlantic Division Final. The 26-year-old spent last season with the Thunderbirds and posted a 9-12-4 record with a 3.29 goals-against average, an .896 save percentage, and one shutout in 28 regular-season games; he was 7-4 with a 1.84 GAA, a .939 save percentage, and two shutouts in 11 postseason appearances.
When Tyler Tucker (right knee) suffered an injury in practice a week ago on Sunday, the 32-year-old Rosen was in camp through Saturday and projected to be the seventh defenseman heading into the regular season, which begins on Friday for the Blues against the Dallas Stars.
But things changed when Logan Mailloux injured his right hand Saturday in a 3-2 preseason loss to the Chicago Blackhawks that the team announced on Monday required surgery that will sideline him for eight weeks before being re-evaluated, and the Blues claiming Justin Barron off waivers from the Nashville Predators as well as recalling Adam Jiricek, a first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
Rosen spent most of last season with the Thunderbirds and had 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) in 61 regular-season games; he also appeared in nine games with the Hershey Bears, recording seven points (one goal, six assists) before being re-acquired for Corey Schueneman.
Rosen helped the Thunderbirds reach the Atlantic Division Final after logging seven points (three goals, four assists) in 12 postseason games.
