St. Louis Blues 2026 seventh-round pick Colin Fitzgerald has committed to Providence College in the NCAA for the 2027-28 season.
The trend of Canadian Major Junior players heading to the NCAA continues, with St. Louis Blues prospect Colin Fitzgerald committing to Providence College.
The 18-year-old will join the Friars in the NCAA for the 2027-28 season, as he'll play one final year in the OHL.
The Blues selected the 6-foot-3 center in the seventh round (203rd overall) of the 2026 NHL draft. Fitzgerald split his draft year with the Peterborough Petes before being traded to the Soo Greyhounds.
With the Petes, Fitzgerald notched six goals and 13 points in 24 games, serving as an alternate captain. Upon being dealt, Fitzgerald posted nine goals and 20 points in 39 games with the Greyhounds. Fitzgerald struggled in the playoffs, failing to record any points over 10 games.
The Blues' decision to draft Fitzgerald is a bet on physical tools eventually panning out. Fitzgerald was initially the third overall pick in the 2024 OHL priority draft after posting dominant numbers in the OHL Cup and the OMHA.
It hasn't come together just yet for Fitzgerald, but taking a gamble on Fitzgerald in the seventh round is a calculated move.
The hope is that it comes together for the right-handed shooter this year in the OHL, before joining a Providence team that has really stocked its roster and is considered one of the favorites to win the National Championship this season.
The 2026-27 Friars roster features 10 NHL-drafted players, many of whom could return for the 2027-28 season as well.
With great size and physical tools, Fitzgerald could take a large step forward in his development over the next few seasons.
