Former Tampa Bay Lightning forward Corey Perry is enjoying a strong post-season with the Edmonton Oilers this spring. He certainly built on it in the Oilers' Game 4 win over the Dallas Stars, too, as the veteran winger scored the eventual game-winning goal for Edmonton at the 9:20 mark of the second period.
Perry's goal in Game 4 was a good one, too, as the former Lightning forward tipped home a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins feed past Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger. With this goal, Perry now has six goals this post-season for the Oilers and has tied an interesting NHL record because of it.
According to TSN's StatsCentre, Perry has now tied Jean Beliveau, Ron Francis, Mark Recchi, and Teemu Selanne for the most playoff goals scored in a single post-season by a player who is 39 years or older. When noting that the four players who Perry has tied are all in the Hall of Fame, it is fair to say that he has joined some legendary company with this awesome stat.
At 40 years old, Perry is still an impactful player, and the Oilers are benefiting from it big time. In 15 playoff games so far this spring with Edmonton, the former Lightning forward has six goals, nine points, and a plus-4 rating. It will be interesting to see how he builds on these numbers from here.
In 163 regular-season games with the Lightning over two seasons from 2021-22 to 2022-23, Perry posted 31 goals, 65 points, and 121 hits.
