Earlier this week, the Tampa Bay Lightning signed goalie prospect Harrison Meneghin to a three-year, entry-level contract. The 20-year-old was selected by the Lightning with the 206th overall pick of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft and has certainly been creating plenty of optimism about his future since.
Meneghin put together an impressive 23-9-2 record, a .901 save percentage, and a 2.56 goals-against average in 35 regular-season games with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL this year. However, he has hit a new level this post-season for Medicine Hat, posting a 14-1 record and 2.35 goals-against average in 16 playoff games. With this, he helped the Tigers win the WHL Championship and was named MVP of the WHL playoffs.
The Lightning having a goalie prospect accomplishing all of this should excite them. Meneghin is demonstrating that he has the potential to blossom into an NHL goalie in the future, which is certainly good news for the Lightning. He is also proving that he can handle the pressure of playing in the playoffs, which is always a major plus when it comes to a goaltender.
While the Lightning have superstar goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy locked up until the end of the 2027-28 season, teams can never have enough goalie depth. It will be fascinating to see if Meneghin becomes something special later down the road for the Lightning, but it is hard not to feel excited about his future with the club.
