The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is less than a week away, and soon, the NHL will be seeing a lot of trades go down. One former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman who has been heavily discussed in the rumor mill is David Savard. With the Montreal Canadiens rebuilding, they are in a position to take advantage of Savard's high trade value.

Savard, 33, has been generating plenty of interest, too. According to The Fourth Period, the Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, and Boston Bruins are all linked to the right-shot defenseman.

When it comes to the Lightning, it is understandable that they are open to a Savard reunion. He fit in nicely as a rental for them during their 2021 Stanley Cup run, and they desperately need help on their blue line with Mikhail Sergachev out indefinitely.

However, it is also quite clear that each of the other clubs connected to him would benefit by adding him. Each of their right sides could use a boost, and he would provide that if acquired by any of them.

Savard is a steady shutdown defenseman who plays top-four minutes, kills penalties, plays a heavy game, and chips in offensively. He is also under contract until the end of next season, adding to his overall appeal.

We will need to wait and see if this interest in Savard leads to the veteran defenseman getting moved this week from here.
