Former Lightning forward, Conor Sheary was hoping for another opportunity in the NHL, and it looks like he’ll get it, as the New York Rangers have signed him to a professional tryout (PTO).
Sheary won two Stanley Cups under new Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan when he coached the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 33-year old became an unrestricted free agent (UFA) this summer after he and the Lightning agreed to mutually terminate his contract.
Sheary appeared in just five NHL games last season with the Lightning, recording no points, two hits, and a minus-2 rating. He spent the majority of the 2024–25 campaign in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch, where he tallied 20 goals and 61 points in 59 games.
During his time in Syracuse, Sheary embraced his role as a veteran, looking after one of the Lightning’s up-and-coming forwards, Conor Geekie.
Over 192 games across four seasons and two separate stints with the Penguins, Sheary tallied 49 goals, 48 assists, and 97 points, along with a plus-24 rating.
