The Lightning have a PTO target to consider in this former Red Wings forward.

The Tampa Bay Lightning should be open to the possibility of inviting at least one player to their training camp on a professional tryout (PTO) agreement.

When looking at the remaining free agents still available for the taking, forward David Perron is an interesting potential option for the Lightning to consider.

With the Lightning's top nine needing a boost, there would be no harm in them giving a player like Perron a chance on a PTO. The veteran winger has had a lot of success in the NHL and could provide the Lightning with more secondary offensive production if he bounced back from his tough finish to the 2025-26.

Perron scored just three goals in his final 16 games of the 2025-26 season after being traded to the Detroit Red Wings. Yet, it is also important to note that he had 25 points in 49 games with the Ottawa Senators before being traded to Detroit. With that, he was effective for most of last season.

If Perron earned a contract through a PTO and regained the form he had with the Senators last season, he could be a very solid addition to the Lightning's third line. Yet, he even could work as a veteran winger on the Lightning's fourth line, as he also plays a gritty game.

Due to all of this, Perron would be an intriguing forward for Tampa Bay to sign to a PTO.
