The Lightning captain and top defenseman left midway through the third period against San Jose on Thursday, after taking a puck to the side of his head.

Tampa Bay captain and top defenseman Victor Hedman was back on the ice for morning skate on Saturday.

The Lightning had the day off on Friday and will look to grab two points against the L.A. Kings on Saturday night.

In their 2-1 loss to San Jose on Thursday, Hedman left the game early after taking a puck to the side of his head. Hedman fell to the ice, holding what looked to be his ear, which was bleeding.

Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said after the game that he did not have an update on Hedman’s status.

“It’s tough. You see him get one in the face, and luckily he’s OK,” said forward Nick Paul. “You’ve just got to get together as a team. You lose the captain, and you’ve just got to find a way.”

Hedman skates on the Lightning’s top power play unit and has 28 points so far this season.
