The Tampa Bay Lightning held their exit interviews on May 2 after their first-round series loss to the Florida Panthers earlier this week. During it, Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois provided a significant injury update regarding superstar defenseman Victor Hedman.

While speaking to reporters, including NHL.com's Benjamin Pierce, BriseBois shared that Hedman played through a broken foot during their first-round series against the Panthers.

It takes the strongest of players to play through a serious injury like a broken foot, so it is hard not to have respect for Hedman for doing so. This is especially so when noting that the 2009 second-overall pick recorded two assists in the Lightning's Game 5 loss to the Panthers.

With the Lightning's season over, Hedman will now focus on recovering from his broken foot from here. He is still the Lightning's top defenseman, so they will be hoping that everything with his recovery goes smoothly.

Hedman appeared in 79 games this season with the Lightning, where he had 15 goals, 51 assists, 66 points, and a plus-18 rating. Overall, it was another good year for the 6-foot-7 blueliner, and it will be intriguing to see how he performs next season from here.
