The Tampa Bay Lightning are never afraid to make a big move, and based on a recent report, it appears that they are trying to make another one.
According to ESPN's Emily Kaplan, the Lightning are among the teams making a push for top unrestricted free agent (UFA) Nikolaj Ehlers. Kaplan also noted that the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals are interested.
It is not hard to comprehend why the Lightning would love to add a player like Ehlers. He has been a very good top-six forward throughout his career and is coming off of another strong season in 2024-25. In 69 games this past campaign, he posted 24 goals, 39 assists, and 63 points.
If the Lightning signed Ehlers, he would slot wonderfully in their top six and power play. He could be a perfect fit on their second line, specifically, as it is not a secret that they could use another impactful forward on the wing.
It will be fascinating to see if the Bolts end up winning the Ehlers sweepstakes from here.
Lightning Re-Sign Breakout Forward To Multi-Year Deal
The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced that they have signed forward Gage Goncalves to a two-year, $2.4 million contract. Starting next season, he will carry a $1.2 million cap hit.
