Nikita Kucherov has been on an incredible level of play since roughly the middle of November, and he's added another accolade under his belt this season.
On Friday, the NHL Players Association named Kucherov their player of the week for January 30 - February 5. During that time, he averaged three points per game (nine points in three games), led the league with seven assists, extending his current point streak to ten games, and had back-to-back four point nights.
Kucherov currently sits third in the NHL in points with 91 in 51 games. He trailed both Connor McDavid (96) and Nathan MacKinnon (93). One important thing to note though, they have played 58 and 55 games respectively, meaning if they were on equal footing in that regard, Kucherov would likely have the league lead.
In terms of point-per-game pace, Kucherov does lead the league though, as he currently has a pace of 1.78 points-per-game. Second place is currently MacKinnon with 1.69.
While McDavid and MacKinnon head off to Italy to play for Team Canada, Kucherov will get a couple of weeks to rest. It'll certainly be interesting to see if he can keep his momentum up after an extended time away from game action.
