The Tampa Bay Lightning are now being linked to one of the top forwards on the trade market.
It may be shocking, but the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is already almost here. Because of this, trade chatter around the NHL is increasing, and the Tampa Bay Lightning are one of the main clubs being discussed. It is understandable, as they are currently trying to cement themselves a playoff spot. With that, star defenseman Mikhail Sergachev is out indefinitely, so they naturally have been connected to most of the top defensemen on the market.
While adding a defenseman is a serious need for the Lightning, it appears that they are also looking to add to their forward group. In The Fourth Period's latest Trade Watch List, the Lightning are now being linked to Ottawa Senators star forward Vladimir Tarasenko.
Tarasenko, 32, is expected to be dealt by March 8, as he has an expiring contract, and the Senators are well out of the playoff race. When noting that he is a top-six forward and one of the top players available, he will generate a ton of interest. Thus, the Lightning will have competition to land his services.
Tarasenko would be a notable addition to the Lightning's roster if acquired. He would give their top six another high-impact player, and he also would be an obvious fit for their power play due to his skill level.
With the Bolts looking to go on a real run this postseason, bringing in another player with a Stanley Cup on his resume, like Tarasenko, would be huge for them. With that, he could make some real magic with stars like Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos, and Brayden Point as his teammates.
Tarasenko has appeared in 50 games this season with the Sens, posting 15 goals, 37 points, and a plus-14 rating.
