Steeves (2), Alex Nylander, and Cedric Pare had the goals for the Marlies in their third-straight win to start the regular season.
Alex Steeves is getting closer to history with the Toronto Marlies.
The 24-year-old had two goals on Friday night in the team's 4-2 win in Rochester. It was his second and third goals of the season, putting him up to three in as many games with the club.
The two goals also moved him closer to the Marlies' franchise points record, held by Kris Newbury, who scored 168 points with the organization from 2005 to 2009. In the second spot is Ryan Hamilton, who had 166 points with Toronto from 2009 to 2013.
"I thought my line’s goal [in the third period] really gave us some insurance and then from there [Artur Akhtyamov] was a stud again tonight. We were really good on the PK, 6-on-5," Steeves told Marlies' play-by-play commentator Todd Crocker after Toronto's win in Rochester on Friday night.
"Even some young guys, winning lines, getting pucks out and in. We still have improvements to make but there’s something about this group that just seems like a lot of guys are willing to kind of play that right way to win games 3-2, 4-2. It’s not always point night and ironically sometimes when you play better defensively, you get more points. So, good stuff, can’t get too high. We’ve got another chance for a win tomorrow and keep the ball rolling."

With two goals on Friday night, Steeves moves into the third spot with 157 points with the Marlies through 192 games, passing T.J. Brennan and Mike Zigomanis, who each had 156 points.
Steeves joined the Marlies out of Notre Dame following the 2021 season, singing a three-year, entry-level deal in March of that year. The forward has only played seven NHL games since arriving in the organization, registering one assist.
He signed a one-year, two-way, $775,000 extension with Toronto as a restricted free agent on Aug 21. Steeves has three points — all goals — in three games with the Marlies to start the regular season.
