Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed on Saturday that the team is dealing with a flu-bug.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without both Auston Matthews and TJ Brodie on Saturday night vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Both players will miss the game because of an illness., the Maple Leafs posted on X ahead of warmups on Saturday.
Matthews took the morning skate inside Scotiabank Arena on Saturday, Brodie did not because he was sick. It seems like, throughout the day, it hit Matthews harder, resulting in him to miss their game against the Penguins.
Matthews has been red-hot as of late, scoring nine goals and three assists for 12 points in his last six games. The 26-year-old has two goals in four of those six games.
The flu bug has hit the Maple Leafs very hard. Ilya Samsonov, Matthew Knies, and William Lagesson have been sick with this bug. Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said the team elected not to practice on Friday because of rest and the flu.
"It's a combination of rest and just the way the illnesses have been creeping up on us and some guys that have been playing through it and others that were unable to come to the rink. Just all of those things combined, we just thought a day away would be the best course for us," Keefe said on Saturday morning.
With both Matthews and Brodie being out, this is how the Maple Leafs' lineup will shape up against the Penguins.
