'Because We're Not A Canadian Team': Los Angeles Kings Social Media Takes Playful Jab at NHL All-Star Game Format, Prompting Reaction From Maple Leafs Fans

The Kings responded to a fan asking why Trevor Moore wasn't going to the NHL All-Star Game by pointing out that he wasn't Canadian and Maple Leafs fans chimed in.

With William Nylander locked up for the long term, THN's David Alter breaks down what it means for the Toronto Maple Leafs moving forward.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be sending a total of four players to the NHL All-Star Game in February after fans voted in Mitch Marner, William Nylander and Morgan Rielly to join Auston Matthews last week.

After the NHL initially announced 32 participants (one from every team), the remaining 12 spots were left to a fan vote. This was dominated by Canadian players, including the Vancouver Canucks, who voted in an additional four players for a total of five participants.

Cam Talbot was named as the Kings participant after a stellar start to the season that has led to the goaltender getting early consideration for the Vezina trophy with a 14-10-5 record and .918 save percentage.

But when a fan asked why Thousand Oaks, California native Trevor Moore wasn't going to the All-Star Game, set to take place in Toronto Feb. 1-3, the Kings' social media account replied that it was because they aren't a Canadian team.

It didn't take long for Maple Leafs fans to take notice and the Kings responded when they saw the increased engagement with the post.

"uh oh looks like the leafs fans found this tweet," they posted along with an eye-roll emoji.

Moore spent his first two NHL seasons with the Maple Leafs where he recorded five goals and eight assists in 52 games spread over two seasons but was traded to Los Angeles on Feb. 5, 2020, as part of a package that brought goaltender Jack Campbell and forward Kyle Clifford to Toronto. Since then, Moore has blossomed to into a productive everyday player for the Kings.

Moore has 20 goals and 11 assists in 40 games with the Kings this season.
