Cowan continues to be the talk of the OHL as the Maple Leafs' top draft pick from 2023 extended his point streak to 34 games.
Easton Cowan has made history with the London Knights.
The 18-year-old forward registered an assist in the first period of London's game against the Windsor Spitfires on Sunday, setting a new franchise record with 34 straight games with a point.
Cowan passes ties Dave Gilmore, who had a 33-game point streak during the 1993-94 season with the Knights. The forward has 63 points (23 goals, 40 assists) during his record-breaking 34-game point streak.
He's ranked sixth among skaters in OHL scoring with 91 points in 52 games, and second on the Knights, only behind Denver Barkey. Cowan, in 68 games last season, had 20 goals and 33 assists for 53 points.
Cowan made a strong impression at both the Traverse City Prospects Tournament and Maple Leafs training camp. He played so well that the organization kept him around until the day before their season opener on Oct. 10.
"Probably the biggest thing for me with Easton is we knew he was a hound on the puck, we knew he had a great motor. The skill level is better than what I had thought," Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving said the day Cowan was sent back to OHL London.
"We got a real good player on the come [up]."
Cowan was selected by the Maple Leafs in the first round (28th overall) of the 2023 NHL draft. Toronto then signed him to an entry-level deal on Aug. 10 that carries an annual average value of $935,833.
