Calle Jarnkrok Follows Trend as Third Maple Leafs Forward to Soak Up the Italian Sun This Summer

Jarnkrok is set to enter the third season of his four-year, $8.4 million contract with the Leafs in 2024-25.

The Maple Leafs made long-term commitments to Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Is it enough to remake the look and feel of Toronto's defense?

The allure of Italy seems to be irresistible for the Toronto Maple Leafs this summer, with Calle Jarnkrok becoming the third player to attend the beautiful vacation spot.

As shown on his wife Sanna’s Instagram account, ‘sjarnkrok,’ the couple is pictured enjoying the Italian charm in Faraglioni, an island in Italy.

In a series of images posted to her Instagram story Thursday, Jarnkrok can be seen soaking up the breathtaking landscape and culinary delights.

He is also seen absorbing the warm rays of European sunshine beaming down.

Jarnkrok, about to enter the third season of his four-year, $8.4 million contract with the Leafs, follows in the footsteps of teammates Max Domi and Bobby McMann, marking a noticeable trend among the Leafs' forwards this summer.

Domi visited Italy in early June and returned to Toronto to attend the Marner Assist Foundation on July 11 and 12. He recently signed a four-year, $15 million contract, and while it’s unclear if his trip was a celebratory vacation or pre-planned, it was undoubtedly well-deserved.

Before that, McMann, who signed a two-year, $2.7 million contract extension with the club in March, traveled to the Comune of Positano, Italy, enjoying his time off in a season that, like Domi, earned him a pay raise.

Jarnkrok is coming off a 2023-24 season where he primarily played a bottom-six role, where he scored 10 goals and added 11 assists for 21 points in 52 regular season games. The 32-year-old was put on long-term injured reserve following a hand injury he suffered on March 14, but he returned to play in all seven games of the club’s opening-round playoff series against the Boston Bruins, though he failed to record a point.

Aside from tying his career-high in assists in the 2022-23 season, Jarnkrok set new personal bests in goals (20) and points (39) in 73 regular season games that year. With his trip to Italy and time to regroup over the summer, it serves as a chance to recharge and rejuvenate before the upcoming season, aiming to regain his form. With the 2024-25 NHL season on the horizon, and plenty of question marks offensively, the Swedish forward will be looking to contribute at his 20-goal pace once again.

In terms of Italy, considering we’re just over halfway through July, it raises the question if we’ll see another member of the Maple Leafs exploring this part of Southern Europe before training camp begins.
