David Kampf Celebrates With Former Maple Leafs Teammates in Instagram Post, Expresses Gratitude to Host Nation Czechia Following Men’s World Hockey Championship

Kampf had seven points in nine games played, including two goals and five assists paired with a team-leading +9 rating in the tournament.

After another disappointing Toronto Maple Leafs playoff loss, it's time to break up the core four forwards and that might mean moving on from Mitch Marner, who becomes a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Following his first gold medal at any IIHF level winning the Men’s World Hockey Championship, Toronto Maple Leafs center David Kampf took to social media (Instagram) to thank the fans for all the support the team received over the tournament.

“Thank you everyone for cheering us on and making all of it so special,” Kampf captioned the post.

The carousel featuring five images sees some familiar faces if you’re a fan of the Maple Leafs. In both the second and fourth images you can see a healthy Ondrej Kase, who had a fantastic tournament with seven points (3G, 4A) in ten games. Kampf mentioned earlier in the tournament that he thought Kase was “Still a great player. I think he can play in the NHL again, for sure.”

Under the post, Leaf fans congratulated Kampf and Co. while mentioning how enjoyable it was to watch a healthy Kase.

“Congratulations David, and it was so so great to see you playing alongside a healthy and happy Ondrej Kase as well,” one commenter said.

Pictured in the fourth image is none other than former Maple Leaf Petr Mrazek, who appeared in two games in the tournament earning a shutout against Austria stopping all 21 shots he faced.

Kampf had a tournament to remember, scoring seven points in nine games played, including two goals and five assists paired with a team-leading +9 rating in the tournament. Perhaps the biggest goal he scored came in the dying seconds of the third period in the tournament final.

After beating out Switzerland defenseman Roman Josi in a foot race, he secured Czechia’s first gold medal since 2010 with an empty net dagger to seal the deal for the host nation’s 48th medal in team history.

The gold medal victory was Czechia’s first on home ice since 1985 and their 13th in the combined history of Czechoslovakia and Czechia. As seen in the video, Kampf alongside teammates and fans alike, was overwhelmed with pure jubilation in the sold-out Prague Arena – leaving Kampf with a major positive heading into the 2024-25 season, ending his 2023-24 campaign on a high note.
