Despite a career-high of 35 goals, Calgary Flames forward and former Toronto Maple Leafs star Nazem Kadri was left off Hockey Canada’s Olympic Orientation Camp Roster. The camp is set to take place later in August.

This omission was not lost on Kadri, who took to Instagram to reply to BarDown’s social post with three question marks. Kadri hasn't worn a Maple Leafs jersey for Canada since the 2010 World Juniors, where the team won a silver medal. He has also not dressed for Canada at the World Hockey Championships during his six NHL seasons that did not have Stanley Cup Playoffs action to follow. Perhaps if he had participated in a world championship or two, he might have gotten an invite.

But that shouldn't matter. Hockey Canada proudly listed how many players who have won gold for them in the past for major tournaments, including the worlds. This is also likely why John Tavares received an invite, as he was the only Leaf in the group of 42 players. The complete list of invitees can be found here

Kadri won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022 before joining the Flames later that summer. Perhaps playing in a bigger market would put more of a spotlight on the former Leaf.

Kadri’s chances of representing Canada at the Olympics were slim to begin with, but this doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have been invited. Of course, if he storms out to an amazing start to the 2025-26 season, he could still get some consideration. The player has been the center of a lot of speculation over his future, with teams like the Leafs and Montreal Canadiens interested in acquiring a player like Kadri.
