McMann left late in the second period of the Maple Leafs' 5-1 loss on Wednesday to Florida.

You won't see Bobby McMann in the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup for the next several games.

The forward suffered a lower-body injury in Toronto's 5-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night. He was listed as day-to-day by Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube after the game and has the same status two days later.

"It's still day-to-day lower-body," Berube said. "Timeline? It's hard for me to tell you exactly because it's [dependent] on how he's going to feel day to day, right? But he's out right now. I wouldn't expect him back for a couple of games."

Pontus Holmberg, who's played with John Tavares and Mitch Marner before, rejoined the Maple Leafs' second line during practice on Friday, in McMann's place.

It's unknown how McMann suffered the lower-body injury against Florida. There were several situations where the forward could've picked up the ailment.

The 28-year-old took a couple of bumps and blocked a few shots, including one from Toronto teammate Chris Tanev, which hit McMann square on the knee.

His last shift in the game against Florida ended with 4:06 left in the second period.

With Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies expected to be in the lineup against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, McMann becomes the sixth player to watch games from the sidelines.

Max Domi, David Kampf, Max Pacioretty, and Calle Jarnkrok are all dealing with injuries while Ryan Reaves is serving his five-game suspension for his high hit on Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse on Nov. 16.

McMann has seven points (six goals, one assist) in 21 games with the Maple Leafs this season. The forward has spent plenty of time in Toronto's top six early this year, averaging 14:12 of ice time under Berube.

The forward signed a two-year, $2.7 million contract extension with Toronto on Mar. 13. McMann has 21 goals and 11 assists for 32 points in 86 games with the Maple Leafs.

As an undrafted forward out of Colgate University, McMann initially signed a two-year AHL deal with the Marlies on April 2, 2020. He spent two seasons in the American Hockey League before signing his first NHL deal on April 29, 2022.

He holds the Marlies rookie goal record with 24 tallies in 61 games during the 2021-22 season.
