Getting into the group chat of a new team is one thing. But fantasy football is something the Leafs take very seriously.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a regular fantasy football league for years and some of the team's newest players have wasted no time getting in on the action.
New goaltender Anthony Stolarz and defenseman Chris Tanev are just a couple of players who have joined in this year's edition of the head-to-head competition.
"That kind of helps to ease the transition," Stolarz said on Monday from the team's charity golf tournament on Monday. "It just gives you something to talk about, and you're just going around just trying to get to know everyone on an individual basis. And it's a lot of people, a lot of staff, so for me it's just kind of going out, get to know everyone."
The 30-year-old Stolarz signed a two-year deal worth $5 million with the Maple Leafs on July 1 after serving as the backup goaltender for the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers last season. There were few players that the goaltender didn't know on the Leafs.
"I actually know quite a few guys here, played with Dakota Mermis, and (Max) Domi, and Mitch (Marner) in London (Knights OHL), played with Benny (Simon Benoit) and (Jani) Hakanpaa in San Diego (Gulls AHL). So I kind of have a good feel of the room, so just being able to know some guys going in makes the transition a lot easier."
It also helps that Panthers teammates Oliver Ekman-Larsson (signed to a four-year, $14 million deal) and Steven Lorentz (joining on a professional tryout) are joining Stolarz.
As for how he's doing through two weeks of fantasy, Stolarz is on top.
"Pretty good, I'm 2-0, so it's a good start," Stolarz said with a smile.

Meanwhile, Toronto's most prized new addition, Chris Tanev, is not doing as well as Stolarz. But, it's a long season.,"I think I'm going to be 1-1, hopefully, if my team doesn't fall apart tonight.
Tanev signed a six-year deal worth $27 million in July.
