    The hockey world is mourning a legend.

    The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Saturday that alumnus Ron Ellis has passed away at age 79.

    Ellis spent his entire NHL career with the Maple Leafs where he played in 1034 regular season games where he scored 332 and 308 assists and was a part of the club that won Toronto's last Stanley Cup in 1967.

    Ellis was part of the 1972 Canadian team that beat the USSR in the famed Summit Series. After his hockey-playing days, the Ellis spent much of his helping NHL Alumni and worked at the Hockey Hall of Fame where he was regularly seen greeting guests where he served as a director of public affairs and assistant to the president

    Ellis, along with is teammates from the 1967 Leafs team, were awarded the Keith Magnuson Man of the Year' award in 2024, handed out annually by the NHL's alumni association.
