    Tavares housed Knies beginning late last season after the forward finished up his college career with the University of Minnesota.

    Matthew Knies has taken the next steps in the life of an NHL hockey player. He's moved out.

    In the latest episode of 'Blueprint' the Toronto Maple Leafs' web video series, the crew follows Knies at the rink and home and the forward gives a tour of what appears to be his new digs.

    "It doesn't really feel like home to be honest," Knies told the crew. "This is the first time living on my own completely by myself with nobody else in the same place."

    The American forward a three-year, entry-level contract with the Leafs on April 9, just days after his University of Minnesota Golden Gophers fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats in the 2023 Frozen Four Final.

    Knies played in the team's final three games of the regular season and most of the playoffs, until he sustained a concussion during the Leafs' second-round playoff series with the Florida Panthers.

    During that time, it was revealed that Maple Leafs captain John Tavares offered up his basement for him to stay. In an interview with Leafs Morning Take in the summer, Knies revealed he was going to stay with Tavares again to begin the 2023-24 season.

    Maple Leafs rookie prospect Fraser Minten also stayed with Tavares and Knies during his brief tenure with the Leafs this season before returning to junior.

    The 21-year-old has. become an everyday player with the Leafs this season and is still technically considered a rookie since he was limited to just three regular-season games last season. He has eight goals and nine assists in 45 games while averaging 14:40 of ice time per game. The 6-foot-2 forward has spent most of the season in the top-six forward group and has most recently occupied the first line left wing position alongside star forwards Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
