Maple Leafs' David Kampf and Czechia Celebrate Hard on Home Soil in World Hockey Championship Victory

Kampf scored the empty-net, championship-clinching goal in front of a home crowd in Prague.

After another disappointing Toronto Maple Leafs playoff loss, it's time to break up the core four forwards and that might mean moving on from Mitch Marner, who becomes a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season.

David Kampf had a tournament he'll never forget.

The Toronto Maple Leafs forward scored the empty-net goal which helped Czechia clinch a 2-0 victory against Switzerland to win the World Hockey Championship in Prague on Sunday.

Czechia won the tournament for the first time since 2010. The last time the tournament was held in Prague, Czechia finished fourth place, just outside of the medals.

Kampf, taking part in his second-ever World Hockey Championship, finished with two goals and five assists in nine games. He missed just one game in the tournament due to an injury that was evidently not serious.

Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak scored the other goal for Czechia, who defeated Sweden 7-3 in the semifinal matchup to get to this point.

Other Leafs who took part in the 2024 edition of the tournament were Maple Leafs captain John Tavares. his team lost to Pontus Holmberg's Sweden in the Bronze Medal Game.
