Marc Savard has officially joined the Toronto Maple Leafs’ coaching staff.

The club made the announcement on Sunday afternoon, ending weeks of speculation of whether or not the former NHL player would join the club.

A couple of weeks ago, Savard and the Calgary Flames had a mutual parting of waives after he served as an assistant coach. That prompted some speculation that he might join the Leafs’ staff.

Shortly after that, Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek cited that Savard might possibly return to Junior. Before joining the Flames’ staff in 2023-24, Savard spent two seasons as head coach of the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League.

Savard will likely help run Toronto’s power play this season, a role he assumed while with the Flames  Savard was an assistant coach with the St. Louis Blues in 2019-20, under current Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube.

Last week, the Maple Leafs parted ways with assistant coach Guy Boucher after just one season. That left a coaching vacancy that was just filled by Sunday’s announcements

Savard’s hiring completes head coach Berube’s staff for the upcoming season, which includes associate Lane Lambert, assistant Mike Van Ryn, goaltending coach Curtis Sanford, and video coaches Jordan Bean and Sam Kim.

The newest Leafs staffer took to his social media and updated his profile pic with the Leafs logo.
