Despite getting back into the lineup in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 5-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, John Klingberg missed practice due to maintenance stemming from the injury that prevented him from taking part during the clubs' 5-4 shootout victory against the Calgary Flames on Friday.
"Just a chance for him to get more treatment and continue to monitor the situation," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said of the defenseman. "We don’t think he’ll be on the ice tomorrow either but should be ok on Wednesday just with the treatment he’s getting he’s going to need a couple of days to really help let that sort of settle."
Klingberg was held of the lineup on Friday as Keefe revealed that the defenseman has been dealing with an injury. When asked if he could share the nature of Klingberg's injury, Keefe simply smiled and replied: "No."
The Maple Leafs signed Klingberg to a one-year, $4.15 million contract this summer but the defenseman has struggled on both sides of his game. The issues defensively were hard to ignore when the 31-year-old was on the ice for four goals against in a 6-4 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.
On Saturday, Klingberg logged 19 minutes of ice time and was a plus-1. He skated on the team's third pair with fellow Gothenburg, Sweden native William Lagesson.
The Maple Leafs get set for a pair of regular season games in Stockholm, Sweden against the Detroit Red Wings and Minnesota Wild this weekend, as part of the NHL's annual Global Series.
