Domi signed a four-year, $15 million contract with the Leafs that carries a salary cap hit of $3.75 million per season.

Italy appears to be a popular destination spot for a couple of Toronto Maple Leafs this offseason.

A few weeks ago, in the latter half of June, Leafs forward Bobby McMann was present in the Comune of Positano, Italy, enjoying his time off.

More recently, whether he was in Italy to celebrate his new four-year, $15 million contract or not, Leafs' Max Domi wasted no time in sharing glimpses of his own picturesque Italian getaway with fans.

On Wednesday, Domi took to Instagram to share a carousel of images featuring a blend of beautiful scenery and historic landmarks, captioning the post, “I think about the Roman Empire every day” with the Italian song ‘Con Te Partirò’ embedded in the background.

Even New York Islanders forward Bo Horvat, whom Domi played with at the junior level for the London Knights from 2011-14, made an appearance and appeared to be vacationing with the Leafs forward (see slide five).

It remains to be seen whether Domi's vacation was a celebration of his new contract or a planned retreat amid the offseason. Nevertheless, his posts received praise from Leafs Nation, with many fans of the team expressing excitement about his continued presence in Toronto in the coming seasons.

The comments, playfully based on his ‘Roman Empire’ inspired caption, emphasized the anticipation of Domi's return in the blue and white uniform for the foreseeable future.

“I think about Max Domi saucer passes every day,” wrote one fan.

“I think about you lifting the (Stanley) Cup next season,” exclaimed another.

“So happy to see you in blue for the next four years,” chimed in a third supporter.

After the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, the 29-year-old expressed his desire to remain in Toronto, stating, “Do I want to come back? Absolutely. I think this team has everything it takes to do something special and I would love to help them do that.”

And Leafs general manager Brad Treliving shared Domi’s sentiment, it was just a matter of finding a deal that worked for both sides. Obviously, through a careful negotiation period that lasted until June 30, the two parties came to an agreement that sees Domi earn $3.75 million per season over the next four years – a tidy deal for the Leafs.

With management forwarding their attention to addressing assistance on the blueline and in net, Domi marked the only major splash upfront in NHL free agency thus far for the club.

Throughout his lone season repping the Maple Leafs emblem in 2023-24, he played 80 games scoring nine goals and adding 38 assists before tacking on an additional four points (1G, 3A) in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
