Kicking off our Toronto Maple Leafs prospects ranking is Victor Johansson at No. 10.
During these dog days of the NHL off-season, it's a good time to evaluate the Toronto Maple Leafs' prospect pool going into the 2026-27 campaign. For the next little while, we'll be ranking the top 10 prospects in the Maple Leafs' system.
The players on this list do not have extensive NHL experience and are all under 23. Therefore, players such as William Villeneuve, Artur Akhtyamov and Easton Cowan, among others, won't feature in this ranking for either or both of those particular reasons.
In terms of where these players fall in the rankings, it is a mix of their ceiling and potential, as well as how they've performed in the past year with their respective clubs.
Beginning at No. 10 on this list, is left-handed defenseman Victor Johansson.
The Maple Leafs selected Johansson in the fourth round of the 2024 draft with the 120th pick. The 20-year-old Swede is a two-way defenseman who will be set to feature in his first full season in the SHL.
This past year, he spent most of his time in Sweden's second division, Allsvenskan, playing 22 regular-season games for Oskarshamn. Johansson scored at a respectable rate from the back end, registering one goal and 10 points in that campaign, followed by three assists in five qualification fixtures.
Looking back at 2024-25, Johansson had a very strong year in Sweden's Jr. ranks. With Leksands' Jr. club, he recorded seven goals and 39 points in 47 games with a plus-29 rating. He finished that campaign third in scoring among defensemen and led his entire team in points.
He's also been known for spending a lot of time in the penalty box, as he accumulated 113 penalty minutes that year. It's been rather typical for him to end a season or tournament with quite a few penalty minutes attached to his name.
In 2025-26, Johansson appeared in the SHL for the past two years, seeing 10 games in 2025-26 with Leksands' professional team, putting up three assists. He also had another, and rather brief, stint with Leksands' Jr. club, recording two goals in as many contests.
The youngster was also a part of Sweden's impressive World Junior Championship campaign in the last tournament. The Swedes went on to win gold as Johansson played five of the team's seven outings, although he didn't feature in the gold medal game.
Nonetheless, he was a member of the winning team that brought the best prospects in the country.
For this coming season, Johansson will be joining Brynas of the SHL after Leksands were relegated from Sweden's top professional league.
