Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan keeps his point streak going with the OHL's London Knights.
The 19-year-old forward had an empty netter in London's 3-1 win over the Kitchener Rangers on Tuesday night, extending his point streak to 52 games. Although the OHL and CHL deem his streak unofficial, according to The Hockey News' Ken Campbell, Cowan has the longest point streak in the CHL since 2000.
The 52 consecutive games dates back to Nov. 24 of last season with London. Cowan has 37 goals and 51 assists for 88 points in that span.
He's unofficially three games away from tying former Maple Leafs captain Doug Gilmour, who has an OHL record 55-game point streak, which he set during the 1982-83 season with the Cornwall Royals.
However, it's still possible for Cowan to officially break the record this season as London still has 48 games left on the schedule. The Mount Brydges, Ontario-born player would assumably hit Gilmour's record late in the season if he continued to register points in every game.
Cowan will likely miss a few games in late December and early January as he represents Team Canada at the 2025 World Juniors in Ottawa, Ontario.
The forward was on the team last year and scored two points (one goal, one assist) in five games. Canada fell 3-2 to Czechia in the quarterfinals last year and was eliminated from the tournament, going home without a medal.
The Maple Leafs selected Cowan in the first round (28th overall) in the 2023 NHL Draft. He signed a three-year, entry-level deal with the club on Aug 11, 2023, two months after Toronto drafted him.
Cowan had hoped to make the Maple Leafs out of training camp this summer but didn't stand out enough during his pre-season games. Toronto sent him back to the OHL on Oct. 7.
Cowan has 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points in 16 games with the Knights this season. Since joining the OHL club during the 2021-22 season, he has 173 points (69 goals, 104 assists) in 145 games.
