Maple Leafs Prospects Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan Make Team Canada's 2024 World Juniors Roster

The two Maple Leafs prospects will be participating in their first-every World Junior Championship, beginning on Dec. 26.

Joseph Woll was on a roll but now the Toronto Maple Leafs will be without him for the next little while. What does this mean for Ilya Samsonov?

Easton Cowan and Fraser Minten are headed to Sweden with Team Canada for the World Juniors.

The two forwards are part of a 22-player team that will travel to Gothenburg, Sweden to participate in the 2024 World Junior Championship.

Both Minten and Cowan had impressive training camps with the Maple Leafs earlier this fall. Cowan was sent back to the OHL's London Knights on the morning of Toronto's home opener while Minten stuck around and appeared in four NHL games with the Maple Leafs.

Cowan was a surprise selection by Toronto in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft. Since returning to the Knights, the 18-year-old has scored 39 points (12 goals, 27 assists) in just 23 games. That puts him only behind Denver Barkey — who didn't make Team Canada's roster — for team scoring.

Minten, who the Maple Leafs selected in the second round (38th overall) by Toronto in the 2022 NHL Draft was named captain of the Kamloops Blazers after being sent back to the WHL.

The 19-year-old played seven games before being traded to the Saskatoon Blades, where he currently has five points (two goals, three assists) in six games. He said earlier this season that one of his goals is to play for Team Canada in the World Junior Championship.

Minten didn't play in either of Team Canada's exhibition games against USports this week, meaning he was a projected lock to make the roster. Cowan, however, did play in both games (Tuesday and Wednesday), ultimately playing good enough to win a spot on the team.

The World Junior Championships will be held in Sweden and runs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
