The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly still keeping tabs on unrestricted free agent Jack Roslovic as the offseason begins to wind down.

Earlier this summer, reports surfaced that Toronto was interested in bringing in Roslovic. In early August, on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman wondered if there’d be a fit because of Roslovic’s past with Auston Matthews at the US National Development Team.

Roslovic, who tied a career-high in goals last season with 22, has yet to sign with an NHL club for next season. And according to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli on Bleacher Report’s Insider Notebook, the Maple Leafs are still keeping an eye on the forward.

“The Toronto Maple Leafs were one of the teams that were engaged and in conversation with Roslovic. Some people had suggested, ‘Hey, this is a done deal with Roslovic and they’re going to announce it at some point in the future.’” Seravalli said.

“But every side that’s connected to Jack Roslovic and the Leafs have said, ‘No, no, no. No deal is done here.’ It’s just something they are certainly keeping tabs on.”

Toronto has had a busy summer ever since just before the opening of free agency. The Maple Leafs acquired Nicolas Roy in a sign-and-trade for Mitch Marner in late June. They also added Matias Maccelli from the Utah Mammoth for a conditional third-round pick in 2027 and Dakota Joshua via the Vancouver Canucks for a 2028 fourth-round pick.

As it currently stands, the Maple Leafs have $1,919,722 in salary cap space, according to PuckPedia. Toronto could open up more room by moving a player like David Kampf. He carries a $2.4 million cap hit for two more seasons and is projected to be on the outside looking in with Toronto next season.

If they were to make a move like that, it’d open the door to adding Roslovic. Along with his 22 goals last season (third on the Carolina Hurricanes), the 28-year-old tallied 17 assists for 39 points in 81 games.

Roslovic signed a one-year, $2.8 million contract with the Hurricanes last summer, and after a strong year in the goalscoring department, it’s likely he’s looking for a raise. It’ll be fascinating to watch where the forward ends up as players begin returning to their cities in preparation for training camp.
