The Toronto Maple Leafs are icing a rookie-loaded lineup for their second-last pre-season game of the year.

It'll be another opportunity for Nick Robertson, Easton Cowan, and Nikita Grebenkin, among others, to show they belong with the Maple Leafs when they take on the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday evening in the motor city.

Topi Niemela is also finally playing in a pre-season game with Toronto. He hasn't appeared in a single game ahead of this year as several other defensemen in the organization get looks.

The 22-year-old will be quarterbacking the Maple Leafs' top power play unit, alongside Robertson, Cowan, Max Pacioretty, and David Kampf. The second group consists of Grebenkin, Bobby McMann, Alex Steeves, Alex Nylander, and Timothy Liljegren.

Calle Jarnkrok returns to game action after dealing with a lower-body injury. He hasn't appeared in a pre-season game since the Maple Leafs fell to the Ottawa Senators 6-5 in overtime on Sept. 22.

Steeves was another player dealing with a lower-body injury throughout camp. He will appear in his second pre-season game on Thursday after scoring Toronto's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Ottawa on Sept. 24.

With this being the penultimate pre-season game, it's more than likely Anthony Stolarz gets the entire game ahead of the regular season, which begins on Oct. 9 in Montreal.

Where to Watch
