Liljegren is one of several Maple Leafs players seen on Instagram training for the upcoming season. Max Domi, William Nylander, Mitch Marner, and Auston Matthews, among others, have also had Instagram stories or posts of themselves working out.
This isn't the first summer that Liljegren has been training with CrossFit Ängelholm. He's trained with them for several years, even working out with former Maple Leafs forward Pierre Engvall, who recently got married.
The Swedish defenseman is coming off another season where he's improved. He played bottom-four minutes for most of the regular season and playoffs, which will bode well for his confidence in the future.
With a new head coach in Craig Berube coming into Toronto, there could be plenty of opportunity for the defender to prove he can be an important piece of the Maple Leafs' d-core.
Liljegren signed a two-year, $6 million contract extension on June 30, minutes before the deadline for the Maple Leafs to extend the defender a qualifying offer.
Liljegren averaged the fourth-most ice time among Maple Leafs defensemen in the regular season with 19:40, only behind Morgan Rielly, TJ Brodie, and Jake McCabe. The Swede had three goals and 20 assists in 55 games last year.
He also averaged 17:52 per game in the postseason, the fourth-most minutes among Toronto defenders, behind Rielly, McCabe, and Joel Edmundson. Liljegren registered one assist in six games during the first round against the Boston Bruins.
