One day after signing a massive eight-year, $92 million contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs comes word that the skilled forward is in the early lead fan voting for the NHL All-Star Game among skaters.
Nylander has received 744,990 online votes, according to the NHL.
Nylander's total is 80,000 votes more than Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar, who sits second.
The NHL released the first 32 participants to the 2024 NHL All-Star Game last week and Auston Matthews was Toronto's entry. The initial round saw one player picked each from all NHL clubs.
An additional 12 players will get into the All-Star Game. With the event being held in Toronto, there is a good chance that Leafs forward Mitch Marner could be voted in as well, He currently sits fifth among skaters at 457,900.
The numbers, released by the NHL are tabulated through Jan. 8.
Voting is still open at NHL.com/vote and via X (formerly Twitter) through Thursday, Jan. 11. Every retweet vote cast via X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Jan. 10 will count twice.
The 27-year-old Nylander is having a career season with the Maple Leafs. He has 21 goals and 33 assists in 37 games and leads the Leafs with 54 points.
Marner has 15 goals and 25 assists in 37 games.
NHL All-Star Weekend takes place in Toronto from Feb. 1-4.
