Edmundson's absence from Saturday's game has nothing to do with his last injury, Keefe says.
Max Domi will be in the Maple Leafs lineup on Saturday night against the Red Wings after missing practice on Wednesday with an undisclosed injury.
As will Timothy Liljegren, who hasn't played since Mar. 26 after suffering an upper-body injury in a 6-3 loss to New Jersey. The 24-year-old defenseman skated in his first full practice with the team on Friday since suffering the injury.
Another lineup change for Toronto is Joel Edmundson coming out of the lineup because of something that "popped up," per Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe.
Edmundson did take to the ice on Saturday morning for Toronto's optional skate ahead of their game against the Red Wings.
"Nothing to do with his previous injury. Just something's popped up here and we're being overly cautious with it at this point," Keefe added. "Nothing we're too concerned about, but everything considered, we will give him tonight off."
Toronto's 6-5 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night was Edmundson's first game with the Maple Leafs since Mar. 24 when he suffered an injury blocking a shot. The 30-year-old blocked a shot again during the first period on Thursday and seemed to be in considerable pain on Toronto's bench, but remained in the game.
"[I felt] a little out of it in the first [period]," said Edmundson on Thursday of how he felt he played in his return to the lineup. "A little slower than everyone else, just the decisions. But after the first intermission, I kind of calmed down and felt good."

Among the other lineup changes is Ryan Reaves reentering Toronto's lineup. He hasn't played since the Maple Leafs' 3-2 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Apr. 8.
This will be Toronto's final home game of the regular season and Nick Robertson wants to see the fans leave Scotiabank Arena with a Maple Leafs win.
[I'm expecting] like a playoff-style game. Detroit's fighting for a playoff spot and I think it's good for us to get that mentality right away in a playoff game. So, looking forward to playing tonight and hopefully [we] get a win in our last regular season home game."
