The partnership expands on the League's partnership with NFT platform Sweet first announced in 2022.
The NHL is set to open its digital collectibles platform out of beta on Wednesday with the full release of NHL Breakaway, the official digital collectibles highlight community in partnership with the NHLPA, the NHL Alumni Association and NFT collectible platform Sweet.
The League and its partners began the collaboration with Sweet in 2022. A few months ago, NHL Breakaway began accepting early adopters into the program, with those who got involved first being labeled “Founding Fans.” The feedback from those early adopters was used to shape the future of NHL Breakaway to help ensure its appeal to all fans and collectors.

Beginning Wednesday, NHL fans and collectors can collect, gift, trade, display and participate in set collections and challenges to earn exciting rewards. The NHL Breakaway platform promises to deliver an immersive experience featuring recognizable and iconic highlights in NHL history, as well as unique features including:
Sweet has created otherother NFT and digital collectible programs with other sports leagues including the NBA and F1.
